The Calgary 55 Plus Hockey Association was formed in 1990 to provide an opportunity for Calgary and area players 55 years and older to participate in recreational hockey for the fun of the game. Association members play in various arenas around the city, join in the camaraderie and fellowship, and support community programs through annual contributions to selected charities. There are currently nine teams playing out of the South Fish Creek Cardel Rec Centre with one team playing out each of the Optimist Arena, Renfrew Arena and Shouldice City of Calgary Arenas. The teams primarily play in the mornings and early afternoon.
Interested Players can contact the Association by email @ calgary55plushockey@gmail.com or fill out the CONTACT US form listed below to inquire about opportunities for playing on one of the participating Teams.

2020 Annual Charity Hockey Tournament
The 2020 Annual Charity Tournament will be deferred from November 2020 to some time in the spring of 2021. The state of the situation with Covid 19 makes the holding of this tournament very difficult in these difficult circumstances.
One of the goals in the Annual Charity Tournament was to raise monies for various charities. We would encourage Calgary Hockey 55 Plus Association players to support charities of their choice this season. In particular the Calgary Food Bank was an important charity that the Association has sponsored for many years.
While we were not able to hold our annual November Hockey Tournament, the Calgary 55 Plus Hockey Association has chosen to donate $3,000 to the Calgary Food Bank to assist in their mission to help families out during this difficult time.
This is to update you on the situation regarding our Executive. We called for members to put their name forward if they wished to assume the available positions. We received one name for the position of Secretary and one for Commissioner.
As there were no additional persons putting their names forward for the above positions, the individuals named will be acclaimed and no vote will be required.
The executive will be as follows after our March AGM.
Commissioner Greg Klotz
Treasurer/Webmaster Don Walker
Secretary Ken Burton
Registrar Robert Crawley
I became Commissioner in 2018 and have enjoyed my experience and am pleased with the way the league has developed. I need to thank several people who have made my job a lot easier. In no particular order.
In 2017 Kevin D'Amico took over as Treasurer from Red Armstrong. The next season Kevin had shoulder issues and was unable to continue playing hockey. Even though not playing in the league he agreed to stay on as Treasurer and continued in that role until this year. I truly appreciate all the work Kevin has done to keep our finances and reporting to the Alberta Government in order. Kevin has also worked with the city to procure and maintain all the ice contracts. He went to the city and procured ice for our Shouldice team when the city cancelled their rental at the Shouldice rink on very short notice.
Don Walker took over as secretary in 2018 and has handled that position perfectly. The previous webmaster was ill when Don volunteered to work on our website. With very little accurate history and a lot of work Don has created what you see today. Don also maintains the website and uploads any information we require.
Robert Crawley has the most time consuming job of all and has been our Registrar for the past 3 years. The league registration and CARHA Insurance go hand in hand and Robert manages to keep those two items up to date. The coordinators have helped a great deal by providing accurate information and updating the Google Drive documents on a regular basis. Robert has introduced several systems to help keep track of this important information.
Bryan and Jane Alcock who were Commissioner and Registrar/ Webmaster until 2018 have always been available for questions and support and Allan Bon Bernard has provided advice and historical information which has helped with directing the league.
I also need to thank all the coordinators who make this league run. Without their efforts we would not have the organization we enjoy.
Now I need to thank the members who have agreed to stay on the board and those who have stepped up. Greg Klotz agreed to put his name forward a year ago and, in order to create a smooth transition, has worked with myself and been involved in all facets of the league since then.
Ken Burton has agreed to take over as Secretary and Don Walker will move to Treasurer. Don will also continue to look after all things Web related. He is a glutton for punishment apparently.
I hope you will thank these guys for stepping up when you see them at the rink.
I am hoping we all get back to the rink this spring. Next season has to be better than this one.
Regards
Alan Barrett
Commissioner
