The Calgary 55 Plus Hockey Association was formed in 1990 to provide an opportunity for Calgary and area players 55 years and older to participate in recreational hockey for the fun of the game. Association members play in various arenas around the city, join in the camaraderie and fellowship, and support community programs through annual contributions to selected charities. There are currently Twelve teams playing out of the South Fish Creek Cardel Rec Centre with one team playing out each of the Optimist Arena, Renfrew Arena and Norma Bush City of Calgary Arenas. The teams primarily play in the mornings and early afternoon.
Our season runs from October 1 to March 31. All of our teams play in the mornings from Monday to Friday. Our players range in age from 55 to 89. Prospective players are tried to be placed on teams with similar skill and ability. Teams are located at Cardel Rec Centre in Shawnessey, Shouldice Rink in Bowness, Stew Hendry rink in Renfrew and Optimist rink on 26th Ave SW. A full schedule of times and arenas can be found under Team Information/ Rosters tab.

On January 20, 2024, which coincidently was Hockey Day in Canada, an exhibition game between a team composed of Calgary 55+ players (Blue) and a team of travelling Australians (White) was played as a friendly (Aussi terminology) at the SFC Cardel arena. Friends and spectators were entertained with a fast paced and evenly match game. All players socialized after the game at the Bench and we thank the Bench staff for providing a fun social event where players from both teams shared personal and hockey stories. The Senators played two games in Calgary and were headed to Lake Louise, Jasper, Red Deer, Edmonton, Invermere and Cranbrook for additional games on their tour of western Canada.
